Bilingual Ministry Formation Certification
The Ministry Formation Program culminates with Bishop Malloy certifying participants as Lay Ecclesial Ministers in the Diocese. Since 2020 the Adult Faith Formation Office has been pleased to offer formation for this certification in either English or Spanish. Striving to meet the changing needs of pastors and their communities, we are excited to announce a bilingual formation opportunity.

Requirements
To obtain the Bilingual Ministry Formation Certification, a participant must complete the following:
- Coursework in a Second Language Complete a minimum of 40% of the Ministry Formation Program in the language other than the one in which the participant’s primary formation sessions are conducted. This is equivalent to eight formation events each year: these include regular weekday/weekend sessions, retreats, Specialization Day topics, and Theological Workshop topics.
- Elective sessions Participate in elective sessions that focus on bilingual ministry at this year’s Specialization Day and next year’s Theological Workshop.
- Pastoral Engagement Provide support for a bilingual event at a parish or diocesan event.

The Diocese of Rockford is a diverse Catholic population in which each community brings its own unique faith traditions, cultural expressions, and pastoral practices. These traditions reflect God’s love for His people and are a gift to be shared. In response to the Church’s mission to evangelize, this certification seeks to form and equip disciples of Jesus Christ who are prepared to respond generously to their personal call to ministry.
